In addition to our quest to reforest the hills of northern Bali, we’re also looking to repopulate them with some of the local wildlife.
First up are a couple of really important birds. The Balinese chicken (ayam Bali) or “jungle fowl” is an indigenous species of chicken of increasing scarcity. Working with our local community partners and an Indonesian expedition outfitter called Rakata, we’re planning to release about 50 jungle fowl and a similar number of the equally important crested bulbuls. Bulbuls are seed dispersers and thus an essential part of forest rehabilitation.
